Social Networking in the Classroom #itec11

I attended the session called “Social Networking in the Classroom: It’s Not Just Fun; It’s Fundamental to Modern Learning”, presented by Adrienne Stone, a teacher from nearby Houston, TX. Nearby thanks to the power of the internet and Skype anyway.

In her presentation, she talked about how she has used many social networks to keep in touch with her class, and be available as a backchannel for student question. She told us how she used the following:

Ning (ning.com)
Wall.fm
Grou.ps
Grouply.com <-(She and her students quite enjoyed this network)
Edmundo

I think this is a great idea, as social networking is becoming more than just “Facebook with friends”, and is being used more and more in professional situations. Students need to know how to use this technology in a professional manor. It is that simple!
